Matthew 8:23-27 WEB
23When he got into a boat, his disciples followed him. 24Behold, a violent storm came up on the sea, so much that the boat was covered with the waves, but he was asleep. 25They came to him, and woke him up, saying, “Save us, Lord! We are dying!” 26He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27The men marveled, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Mark 4:35-41 WEB
35On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side.” 36Leaving the multitude, they took him with them, even as he was, in the boat. Other small boats were also with him. 37A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled. 38He himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion, and they woke him up, and told him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?” 39He awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?” 41They were greatly afraid, and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Luke 8:22-25 WEB
22Now on one of those days, he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples, and he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out. 23But as they sailed, he fell asleep. A wind storm came down on the lake, and they were taking on dangerous amounts of water. 24They came to him, and awoke him, saying, “Master, master, we are dying!” He awoke, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and it was calm. 25He said to them, “Where is your faith?” Being afraid they marveled, saying to one another, “Who is this then, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?”

John 5:39-40 WEB
39“You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me. 40Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.

James 2:18-19 WEB
18Yes, a man will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.

John 16:16 WEB
A little while, and you will not see me. Again a little while, and you will see me.”

John 3:16-17 WEB
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 17For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

John 14:6 WEB
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.

1 John 2:1-2 WEB
1My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous. 2And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

John 10:11 WEB
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

In hard times we tend to panic. And trust isn’t our default. We worry, and we fret, and we try to figure it out. Forgetting that we have already been told to just trust him.  Trust is not just a mental accent or a sociolegal certainty.

And even when we doubt it doesn’t mean we don’t trust, perhaps we don’t trust enough. Trust is not something we just profess. We can profess things all we want but it is how we live out our lives that actually proves that it’s true or not.
