Walk In Him 04.19.20

Colossians 2:6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord,

  • Received…by race through faith
  • Gal 3:3 what was started in the spirit must be continued in the spirit

…so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

  1.  Walk in Him…walking =living
    • Walking is an action…
      • Our religion is not private, only to be practiced in solitude
      • Walking her is implying ‘life’. Not just the mere putting one foot in front of the other.
      • So if walking signifies “life” then that life is Christ’s If I walk in Christ…then it follows that I act like Christ
      • Basically exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit…
        1. love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
        2. We would act, react and respond as He did
    • Walking has purpose (me and exercise)
      • Walking has a goal. Whether it be getting to a place we want to be or building up our stamina and getting in shape.
      • Progress…our walking in Him is the process of becoming like Him
    • This walking is a continual action and must become a habit
      •  Continuous
        • Jesus said abide in me and I will abide in you. John 15: 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
        • We walk like he did…
          1. 1 John 2: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
          2. 1 Peter 2: 21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
      • Habitual
        • The constant tenor and/or direction of our lives reflect our habits. Those things we do over and over again.
        • Acts 17: 27-28 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’
  2. HOW DO WE LIVE A LIFE OF JESUS? By having a life that is rooted…built up…established
    • Become stable…rooted as a tree…a work of God to us and for us. By His word through his Spirit’s power.
    • Built up…just as you would build a brick/block house. It is created layer by layer until completed.
    • Established…firm, durable, unshakeable, sure, reliable, solid and legal.
    • Just as you were taught. Jesus, fully God…fully man. Live, was crucified, buried and rose again. Paid the penalty that we should have paid…reconciled us to God the Father. Gave us new life, hope and the Holy Spirit.
  3. Grateful…a life that is filled with thanksgiving
    • Overflowing (4052) (perisseuo) (great quantities of, copiously supplied) (present tense = continually, as a habit of one’s life) means super abounding, abounding richly
    • grateful acknowledgment to God that they had been made acquainted with truths so precious and glorious respecting . As result of the fact that we are rooted and are being continually built up and established, we are to add be abounding with thankfulness.
    • Philippians 4: 6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
